Nanopartículas biogénicas de hierro: estudio de la biocompatibilidad en el trofoblasto humano

Resumen

Las nanopartículas de hierro (FeNPs) tienen aplicaciones prometedoras en salud, pero sus posibles efectos tóxicos sobre la placenta y el trofoblasto aún no han sido suficientemente estudiados. El objetivo de este trabajo fue investigar la toxicidad de FeNPs biogénicas en el trofoblasto humano. Las células se expusieron a FeNPs (0-214 µg/mL) por 4 y 24 h. Se determinó la viabilidad celular, la producción de especies reactivas (ER) de oxígeno y nitrógeno, y la actividad de superóxido dismutasa (SOD). Se observó una reducción significativa (p < 0.05) en la viabilidad celular solo a la concentración más alta ensayada (214 µg/mL), después de 24 h de exposición. No se encontraron cambios significativos en los niveles de ER en las condiciones estudiadas. La actividad de SOD aumentó significativamente tras el tratamiento de 4 y 24 h (p < 0.001 y p < 0.0001), con las mayores concentraciones de FeNPs, lo cual sugiere la inducción de una respuesta antioxidante adaptativa. En su conjunto, los resultados obtenidos indican que las FeNPs biogénicas muestran buena biocompatibilidad con las células del trofoblasto humano, pues las células mantienen una viabilidad mayor al 85%, sin modificaciones en los niveles de ER, y una inducción significativa de la defensa antioxidante.
